Health Care for ECD
Training for caregivers of children with developmental disabilities, including autism

The Caregivers Skills Training (CST) consists of an open-source online programme for families of children with developmental delays or disorders. The programme focuses on training the caregiver to use  everyday play and home activities and routines as opportunities for enhanced caregiver-child interaction and participation, development, and learning.

Who is it for?

For use by non-specialist care providers (nurses, community-based workers, or caregivers) as part of a network of health, education, and social services for children with developmental delays or disabilities —including autism —  and their families.

Why is it useful?

  • The CST programme can be implemented in low-resource settings by non-specialists;
  • It was field tested in more than 30 countries, including the European Region;
  • The CST sessions address communication, engagement, daily living skills, challenging behaviours, and caregiver coping strategies.
