Supporting families for Nurturing Care: Resources Modules for Home Visitors

A joint UNICEF Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia (UNICEF ECARO) and International Step by Step Association (ISSA) set of resource modules intends to better equip home visitors with the latest knowledge and tools to support them in engaging with the families of young children to promote nurturing care.

Who is it for?

For use by professionals trained for or already engaged in home visiting activities. In most countries in the ECA region, these are nurses, but doctors, midwives, feldsher, and non-health professionals also visit pregnant women, and families with young children.

Why is it useful?

  • The modules empower home visitors to take a strengths-based approach that promotes nurturing relationships between the caregiver and child and contributes to risk reduction by referring families to other services when necessary;
  • The modules are informed by the latest scientific evidence and aim to provide practical advice, materials to share with parents, case studies, and exercises for individual and/or group reflection;
  • The modules are for in-service training and can be integrated into the pre-service training of nursing professionals;
  • The package is available in English and Serbian.
