Countdown to 2030 — Early Childhood Development Country Profiles

The Countdown to 2030 Country Profiles for Early Childhood Development (ECD), prepared by UNICEF in collaboration with the Countdown to 2030, cover 197 countries and highlight progress made in the field of ECD, as well as the significant gaps remaining – especially in collecting data on the youngest children and measuring services intended to improve nurturing care.

The countdown is a collaboration of academics from global, regional, and country institutions, UN agencies, and World Bank and civil society organisations to generate evidence to foster advocacy and accountability for women's, children's, and adolescents' health.

Who is it for?

For use by countries (governments, academia, the private sector, civil society organisations, media, etc.) to raise awareness about early childhood development, disseminate information, and advocate for resources, services, and data to improve early childhood development.

Why is it useful?

  • The profiles are an attempt to compile, in one place, the available data for country and cross-country monitoring and to provide a baseline against which progress can be monitored.
  • The profiles include 42 indicators [demographics (4), threats to ECD (8), health (4), nutrition (3), security and safety (5), early learning (4), policies (5), and international conventions (4)]. Responsive caregiving is a component of the Nurturing Care framework but does not have associated indicators yet.
